Out of Egypt, Into the Great Laugh of Mankind, and I Shake the Dirt From My Sandals as I Run (Sufjan Stevens, Come on feel the Illinoise, 2005)
http://www.last.fm/music/Sufjan+Stevens/_/Out+of+Egypt%2C+Into+the+Great+Laugh+of+Mankind%2C+and+I+Shake+the+Dirt+From+My+Sandals+as+I+Run
"Due to legal issues regarding the artwork, Asthmatic Kitty Records briefly stopped sales of the album and asked retailers to do the same. Though not stated explicitly in the label's notice, the cover's depiction of Superman, a comic book character which is the property of DC Comics, is assumed to have been the source of the legal problems. On the vinyl edition released in November, Superman's image is covered by a balloon sticker. The image of the balloon sticker was also used on the cover to the compact disc. Asthmatic Kitty were allowed to sell the first print featuring the character.
However, because big-box retailers such as Best Buy did not comply with the order, Asthmatic Kitty allowed continued sales of the album. The label distributed new versions of the album, with updated artwork. The version currently on sale lacks the picture of Superman in the artwork, but is otherwise unchanged." (Wikipedia)

Run That Body Down (Paul Simon, Paul Simon, 1972)
I went to my doctor yesterday
She said I seem to be OK
She said "Paul, you better look around
How long you think that
You can run that body down?
How many nights you think
That you can do
What you been doing
Who, now who you foolin'?"
I came back home
And I went to bed
I was resting my head
My wife came in
And she said "What's wrong
Sweet boy, what's wrong?"
I told her what's wrong
I said "Peg, you better look around
How long you think that
You can run that body down?
How many nights you think
That you can do
What you been doing
Who, now who you foolin'?"
Kids you better look around
How long you think that
You can run that body down?
How many nights you think
That you can do
What you been doing
Who, now who you foolin'?
Who, now who you foolin'?

The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (Iron Maiden, Somewhere In Time, 1986)
Excellentissime voire essentielle suggestion de jf :
"Iron Maiden est souvent cité mais pas leur titre
"The loneliness of the long distance runner""
The tough of the track
With the wind
And the rain that's beating down on
Your back
Your heart's beating loud
And goes on getting louder
And goes on even more 'til the
Sound is ringing in your head
With every step you tread
And every breath you take
Determination
Makes you run never stop
Got to win got to run 'til you drop
Keep the pace hold the race
Your mind is getting clearer
You're over half way there
But the miles they never seem to end
As if you're in a dream
Not getting anywhere
It seems so futile
[Chorus]
Run on and on
Run on and on
The loneliness of the long distance runner
I've got to keep running the course
I've got to keep running and win at
All costs
I've got to keep going be strong
Must be so determined and push myself on
Run over stiles across fields
Turn to look at who's on your heels
Way ahead of the field
The line is getting nearer but do
You want the glory that goes
You reach the final stretch
Ideals are just a trace
You feel like throwing the race
It's all so futile
[Chorus:]

There Ain't No Easy Run (Dave Dudley, 1968)
En fait rien a voir avec la course à pied, les "runs" sont les parcours de nos amis les routiers (ricains) sont sympas :
"I was sittin' in the terminal waitin' for my load
When a greenhorn driver came in off of the road
I heard him tell that foreman get my little pink slip
This run's too tough and I'm gonna quit
Now the foreman that day happened to be old Joe man he was older than time
He said son how long you been drivin' this rig
You know I drove all shapes forms fashions and kinds
Here you are worried about this one little trip
Why I drove a million miles and then some
He looked that greenhorn right in the eye and he said
“Boy there ain't no easy run?
I drove for Roadway, Interstate, Hopewell, Great Lakes
Overnight and Time, Mayflower and Freight Line
Specter, Yellow Transit, Western, and Gillete
Redball, Rider Northwestern, Big CF
Beaver & Bell, Hoover & McLeans
Gateway Motor Freight , Transport, Vikings
Dixie, Ohio, & Trans American Some
East Texas, Mason Dixon ,Watkin and Transcon
Wilson Associate got all that drivin' done
And I'll tell you boy there ain't no easy runs
Now if you got a gal in Texas they'll send you up to Maine
If you got a gal in New York they'll send you out to the plains
I know what your problem is you got woman trouble son
Well like I said there ain't no easy run
I drove for Navajo, Brady, Goose, DC
North American, Allied, Chicago Motor Freight & Pie
Bee Mac & Curtis, Eastern and NX
Garrett & Ace, Federal & ETM
And Neptune Hereon, Brinks and Sea Lab
Dudley, Dorsey Bekins and Cunningham
Cooper, Mc Roary, Jones & American too
Acme and Central & Standard and Boston Sue
And Yunhan and Buckingham got all that drivin' done
And I'll tell you boy there ain't no easy run
I went backward forwards uphill downhill chills spills thrills and pills...
And how about Atlas & Cramer
Alabama, Hiway Express, Murphy Line
And Long, and Harris, General Stickland, Eden & Key
How about that Nashville by-pass on a Friday afternoon
That'll blow yer shorts off
That's sumpin else
Then there's, Atlanta, Daily, McCrae, Wheeling, Rockwell, Gilbert"
A défaut de "There Ain't No Easy Run", une vidéo du titre fétiche de Dave Dudley "Six Days On The Road" (pour moi "four hours on the road" seront déjà bien, et j'aurais bien besoin des "little white pills" évoquées dans la chanson...)

Demons stealing down from the heavens

But I'm gonna try and live
Tell me can you taste forever - right now Right now

Running Free (Iron Maiden, 1980)
""Running Free" was the first single released by Iron Maiden. It was released on the 8th of February 1980 on the 7" 45 rpm vinyl record format. It was written by Steve Harris and Paul Di'Anno. The song appears as the fourth track on the band's debut album Iron Maiden.
The song is about a troubled 16-year-old boy who runs away on a pick up truck, ends up in a Los Angeles jail and picks up a woman from a bar. The song is known to be one of the band's more traditional rock numbers and is still played at Maiden gigs today with the band members individually named by the lead singer during the long bass-solo.
The single's cover art is also famously known as the first official appearance of the band's mascot Eddie. However in the cover-art his face is obscured because the band didn't want to unveil their mascot until the album's release." (Wikipedia)

Don't run so fast (Rahsaan Patterson, After hours, 2004)
Don't Run So Fast (Patterson, & Jaz)
I remember Gramma’s blue robe
And some of the stories she told
But of all the words she once spoke
There was a lullaby I cherish the most….
Don’t Run So Fast, Don’t Run so Fast, Don’t Run So Fast
You might fall on glass….Don’t Run So Fast, Don’t Run So Fast
Don’t Run So Fast, Don’t Run So Fast, Don’t Run So Fast,
It won’t be the last, Don’t Fun So Fast, Don’t Run So Fast
I remember days in New York
And night’s daddy crept in at 4
I can still hear mommy saying NO!
Don’t you go outside….stay away from that door
Chorus
BRIDGE:
Believe me when I do say I love you
And that I’m needing some time to get through
I’m giving you a glimpse of my past
So maybe then you’d not run so fast
(Hook)
I remember Gramma’s blue robe
And some of the stories she told
And now I have worries no more
Because the love she gave…has carried me on
